UFC 270: Moreno-Figueiredo III Breakdown
Brandon Moreno (19-5-2) and Deiveson Figueiredo (20-2-1) are set to face each other in a highly anticipated trilogy.
Both fighters are experts on the ground with an extensive background in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with almost 20 submission victories between the two of them. Deiveson Figueiredo was tearing through the flyweight division with back-to-back finishes over top names like Joseph Benavidez, Alexandre Pantoja, and Alex Perez. With impressive skills on the ground and his relentless aggression inside the octagon, there is nothing stopping Deiveson from reclaiming his belt. This time around, he has added Olympic gold medalist and former two-division UFC Champion, Henry Cejudo, to his training camp. Primarily, they have been working on his timing and feints.
While Moreno possesses the clear advantage in speed and stamina, Figueiredo’s power is undeniable. Paired with the right timing, stylistically, he can be a nightmare for Moreno should he decide to counter punch.
Even though their first bout had hints of controversy, their second match scored a decisive win for Brandon Moreno. He outclassed Figueiredo on the feet and eventually secured his biggest win via rear-naked choke to capture the UFC Flyweight World title. It was an absolute masterclass to watch, almost equivalent to Cody Garbrandt defeating Dominick Cruz. Expect Moreno to fight relatively the same this time around: setting up big shots with jabs and positioning along with taking it to the ground ASAP.
The longer this fight goes on, the more the outcome will favor Brandon Moreno.
The pressure is mounted on both fighters to close out this trilogy and to secure their spot amongst the 125lbs heap.
